haruo Goto

Violin & Viola Faculties

bio_Haruo_Goto

Born in Nagoya, Japan, Haruo started learning the violin at the age of 3 using the Suzuki Method with Shoichi Yamamura.

Haruo studied with Dr Shinichi Suzuki and in 1987 he graduated from the Talent Education Institute, Matsumoto, Japan.

In 1988 he migrated to Australia settling in Tamworth. He taught in both Tamworth and Armidale until 1998. In 1999 Haruo and his whole family moved to Sydney.

Hauro currently holds the position of Teacher Trainer with the Suzuki Talent Education Association of Australia(NSW) Inc.

 

Sachie Yuki

Sachie Yuki began studying violin with Rie Katsuno at the age of three. Her mother is a TERI violin teacher, so she was able to study violin with her mother at home as well. She also took group lessons with Dr. Suzuki when she was young.

She studied the Suzuki teaching method with Mrs. Masaoka, and advanced violin performance with Professor Koji Toyoda at the International Academy of the Suzuki Method and graduated in March 2006.

After graduation she was teaching children in Matsumoto, until she was sent by Professor Toyoda to teach in Brisbane from January, 2007.

 

Chantal Jones

Violin Faculty

Chantal Jones began violin studies at the age of four in Melbourne, Australia. She continued her studies at the Victorian College of the Arts, with Donald Scotts (concert master with the Melbourne Symphony) and graduated there in 1983. She continued advanced studies on the violin in the USA with Dr Jerry Luchtenberg (student of Galamian), Louisiana University and Diana Steiner (student of Heifetz), University of California.

Chantal has worked as an orchestral violinist both overseas and in Australia, with such orchestras as Melbourne Symphony, Australian Philharmonic Orchestra, Rantos Collegium, New Orleans Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra Orange County, and the Pacific Symphony. She has also been strongly active in areas of improvisation on the violin.

Chantal began her Suzuki Violin Studio in 1995, and completed her advance training with Kim Bishop and Lois Sheperd in Melbourne. She has three children who are all Suzuki string students and has a large home violin studio.

 

John Mitchell

Violin & Viola Faculties

John Mitchell is a string teacher at Somerset College, who specialises in the Suzuki approach to teaching violin and viola. John also teaches the Year 3 String Program as well as conducting the Year 5 Band and is assistant musical director for the Junior Musicals at Somerset College.

John’s qualifications include, a Bachelor of Education in classroom and instrumental music and he is also an accredited Advanced Teacher and Teacher Trainer for the Suzuki Talent Education Association (Qld). For over twenty years John has been teaching Suzuki violin in Queensland and is very dedicated and passionate in his belief in the Suzuki philosophy. Over the last 20 years John has been greatly inspired by attending many Suzuki International and Pan Pacific Conferences as well as travelling to Japan to attend the Summer School in Matsumoto.

 

MARGARET COOKE

Cello Faculty

Margaret Cooke is a graduate of Otago University and continued her studies in modern and baroque cello with Christopher Bunting, Jennifer Ward-Clarke, Anne Bijlsma and Phoebe Carrai.

Margaret's interest in pedagogy has led to ongoing training as a Suzuki cello teacher.

She is an executive member of the NZ Suzuki Institute and has taught and led professional development sessions at workshops and conferences in New Zealand and Australia.

Based in Auckland, Margaret has a Suzuki studio, teaches cello at St Cuthbert's College and Michael Park School, tutors baroque cello at the University of Auckland and performs with Ak Barok and Extempore.

 

BELINDA MANWARING

Cello Faculty

Belinda Manwaring studied at the Sydney Conservatorium with distinguished cellist Lois Simpson. In 1982 she received a Queen Elizabeth 11 Silver Jubilee Award to study with Radu Aldulescu and Pierre Fournier. She has also participated in masterclasses and has had lessons with William Pleeth, Joan Dickson, Phyllis Young, Jacqueline Du Pre and Anner Bylsma.

In 1988, Belinda toured the USA as a member of The Sydney Symphony Orchestra. Between 1985-88 she performed frequently at the Newcastle Conservatorium where she taught cello and chamber music. In 1994 Belinda attained her Graduate Diploma in Performance from Adelaide University, studying with Friedrich Gauwerky. She also holds a Diploma in Public Performance awarded by The Australian Guild of Music and Speech, Melbourne.

Belinda has performed in numerous recital and chamber music concerts in Australia and New Zealand, including for the Redlands Arts Council, Australian Keyboard Society, Gold Coast Friends, New England Bach Festival, Sydney Festival, Historic Houses Trust, Adelaide Festival, Music Teachers Association, film, television and radio and music clubs. She has also performed as a freelance musician with the Sydney Symphony, the Australian Opera & Ballet Orchestra, Australian Chamber Orchestra, and the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra.

She performed regularly with Sydney's chamber music groups such as The Orpheus Trio and the Continuo Plus Baroque ensemble. Her own group, the Petit Four String Quartet, was featured in all the episodes of the acclaimed ABC-TV Bicentennial television series, Australia Take a Bow.

Since moving to Queensland in 2002, she has established herself as a recital cellist on both modern and baroque cello. Her 2 debut recitals were enthusiastically received and her ‘Duo’ cello concert, sponsored by The Redlands Arts Council, was a sell out success.

In 2005 she was been invited to perform  for the BCC lunchtime series in Brisbane, with fellow baroque cellist Louise King, and has played at the ‘4 Seasons Soirees’ concerts and with The Gold Coast Philharmonic Orchestra.

She has performed at the Festival of Flowers for the past 3 years, performing with Phillip Gearing a programme of works for cello and chamber organ. This year Belinda participated in the Sydney Grammar School Bach festival performing in the complete 6 Bach cello suites concert on Baroque cello.

Belinda teaches privately at her studio on the Gold Coast, at St Hilda's School and in Toowoomba. She regularly travels to Sydney and New Zealand giving masterclasses, workshops and consultation lessons.

 

Bruce Davidson

Orchestra

Bruce Davidson gained a Bachelor of Music from the Queensland Conservatorium, where he studied violin with distinguished master teachers Dr Anthony Doheny and Michelle Walsh, and Double Bass with Arthur Dixon. He holds an Associate Diploma in Violin from Trinity College London.

He has a long standing association with the Gold Coast Youth Orchestra and has been Director of Music for the Gold Coast Youth Orchestra since 1988. As a result of his work with the Gold Coast Youth Orchestra, he was nominated and short-listed for the “national regional award given to an individual who has fostered excellence, innovation and/or creativity in an Orchestra in a regional area”.

Bruce is a member of the Music Arrangers Guild of Australia and has prepared music for the Symphony Australia Orchestras, movies and television. Prominent Australian Composers including Brian May, Richard Mills,Vincent Plush, Colin Brumby, Andrew Schultz and Felix Meagher, have used his work in premieres in Australia and United States.
